Last updated: March 10, 2026
This Service Agreement outlines the terms and expectations for placenta encapsulation and related services provided by Loveborn. By booking with us, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the following.
Scope of Services
Your Loveborn encapsulation package includes:
- Pickup of your placenta from your birth location (hospital, birth center, or home) within the San Diego area
- Placenta encapsulation using your chosen method — traditional (steamed with herbs) or raw (dehydrated without steaming)
- Capsules returned to you in labeled jars with dosage instructions
- Any additional services selected during booking, such as birthroot tincture, umbilical cord keepsake art, placenta prints, or commemorative posters
Informed Consent
By booking this service, you acknowledge and understand the following:
- Placenta encapsulation is a traditional practice and is not a medical treatment. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition.
- These services and products have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- You are choosing to consume your placenta capsules and/or tincture voluntarily and of your own free will.
- You have had the opportunity to discuss placenta encapsulation with your healthcare provider and are making an informed decision.
Placenta Handling
Proper handling of your placenta is essential for safety. We ask that you follow these guidelines:
- Your placenta must be refrigerated or placed on ice within two hours of delivery. Do not leave it at room temperature.
- Place it in a clean, sealed container or bag provided by your birth team.
- Notify Loveborn as soon as possible after your baby is born so we can arrange prompt pickup and begin processing within a safe timeframe.
- If your placenta is not properly stored, Loveborn reserves the right to decline processing for safety reasons.
Safety & Hygiene
Your safety is our highest priority. Loveborn follows strict hygiene and safety protocols:
- All processing is done in a certified, dedicated workspace that adheres to OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines.
- Single-use equipment (gloves, cutting surfaces, liners) is used where applicable and disposed of after each client.
- Reusable equipment is thoroughly sanitized between each use.
- Only one placenta is processed at a time to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination.
Storage Instructions
Capsules: Store your placenta capsules in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Traditional method capsules are shelf-stable at room temperature. Raw method capsules must be refrigerated and used within a shorter timeframe — specific guidance will be provided with your capsules.
Tincture: Store your birthroot tincture at room temperature, away from direct light. The tincture has a long shelf life and can be kept for years when stored properly.
Keepsakes
Loveborn creates keepsakes — including cord art and placenta prints — with care and attention. Because we work with natural, organic materials, please understand:
- We make our best effort to create cord art in your requested shape, but the natural form of the cord may influence the final result.
- Placenta prints are one-of-a-kind works created from natural pigments. Colors, textures, and patterns will vary with each placenta.
- Keepsakes are handmade and may have natural variations that make each piece unique.
Transfer Protocol
To ensure a smooth placenta pickup, please keep the following in mind:
- If you are delivering at a hospital or birth center, notify your nursing staff and/or midwife that you plan to keep your placenta. This is your right, but advance communication helps avoid complications.
- You are responsible for arranging the release of your placenta from the facility. Some hospitals may require you to sign a release form.
- Designate a support person (partner, doula, family member) who can hand off the placenta to Loveborn if you are unable to do so yourself after delivery.
Limitation of Liability
Loveborn provides placenta encapsulation and related services in good faith and with the highest standard of care. However, by booking our services, you acknowledge and agree:
- Loveborn is not liable for any adverse reactions, side effects, or health outcomes resulting from the consumption of placenta capsules or tincture.
- You voluntarily release Loveborn, its owner, and its contractors from any and all claims, demands, or damages arising from or related to the services provided.
- This release applies to you, your heirs, and your legal representatives.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that plans can change. Our cancellation policy is as follows:
- Cancellations made 30 or more days before your estimated due date are eligible for a 50% refund of the total amount paid.
- Cancellations made within 30 days of your estimated due date are not eligible for a refund.
- If Loveborn is unable to provide your service for any reason, a full refund will be issued.
